With summer approaching, it can only mean one thing for students – countless of interviews are on the horizon! Many of you will be spending the next couple of weeks job hunting for the summer, which means you’ll need to be on your ‘A game’ when the interview process comes around.
A good way to stand out from the other candidates is to have a portfolio on hand. Whether your portfolio is printed or published online is up to you, just make sure to bring something to the table so you can fully impress your potential employer.
When building your portfolio, here are a few things you’ll want to include:
Examples of Your Writing
You’ll want to include press releases, blog posts or any written copy you think may relate to the job position. For those in PR, you’ll need to include these things to show your potential employer that you know how to write PR materials and know how to write them well.
Multimedia Content
There’s more than just writing in PR. For this part of your portfolio, you’ll want to include any design or video content that shows off your creative skills. Good examples include a crisis video, a short advertisement video and/or a brochure.
Info About You
Although your interviewer will likely have your resume on hand, it’s still a good idea to include your resume and a short biography on your portfolio, especially if it’s an online portfolio. With good SEO, you never know who may stumble on your online portfolio, and that’s why it’s important to publish information about yourself that highlights your skills, experiences and goals.
Now you’re all set, you have all the basics to make up a great portfolio!
We’d love to hear your thoughts: what else would you include in your portfolio?
