TriSight has proudly represented Intersections South LA for over four years. Intersections South LA is a website for the South Los Angeles area. It features news reporting, opinion, event coverage and storytelling on issues such as education, business, arts and politics. The site showcases reporting by journalism students at USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, along with citizen journalism and opinion editorials by local residents and high school students.
The mission of Intersections South LA is to create an interactive partnership between journalists and residents in providing news, information and vibrant storytelling to under-served communities in the South Los Angeles region, with the goal of promoting civic engagement.
In 2013, TriSight staff helped with a rebranding of the Intersections website; a new logo was designed and the website was modernized on a WordPress platform. TriSight also developed a social media policies for staff members to use when posting on Facebook and Twitter. In the Summer of 2013, Intersections debuted Reporters Corps South LA program, a USC Annenberg program to train young adults from South LA to report on their own communities.
The TriSight PR team gains hands-on social media experience by being in charge of Intersections South LA’s Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. USC M.A. candidate in strategic public relations, Teresa Maxwell says, “Working on this account has given me the opportunity to put into practice what I have been learning about social media in the classroom. The classroom gave me the tools, but working with Intersections is where I am learning the most valuable lessons.”
This semester the team is working on ways to further engage the South Los Angeles community through social media channels. An additional goal is to assist Intersections South LA with assessing its current position in comparison to other local news websites across the United States. TriSight staff will perform a SWOT analysis and present implications and recommendations from the analysis to Intersections South LA. This analysis will help Intersections South LA and TriSight advance and flourish their successful partnership into 2014.
